Rachel Comey's flagship store is located in SoHo, Manhattan. The store occupies a former mechanic's garage. The existing shell was retained and refinished to enhance the existing wood joists and large central skylights.
Unique, custom finishes include board-formed concrete walls, a "concrete terrazzo" floor made of poured concrete with hand-placed aggregate of marble chips and heavily stuccoed walls, bent-brushed brass clothing racks, and a large custom shoe display made from concrete and stones collected from a local beach combined with pumice stones from the designer's denim stone washing facility.
The exterior of the building was painted white. Brass numbers, exterior light fixtures, door handles, and signs — all custom made — were added.
A unique, urban space that has been re-invented for an innovative designer.
